Whitby outlasts Toronto Lakeshore, 3-2

The Whitby Fury and the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Whitby made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Devin Shore's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The win gave the Fury a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Toronto Lakeshore's power play was ineffective against Whitby's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Fury were led by Shore, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Shore scored short handed 14:50 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Whitby. Whitby played down a man on Cameron Smith's roughing. Sam Gray assisted on the tally.

Team could not crack the Patriots' penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 11 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

Whitby also got a goal from Quincy McIvor as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Jack Lewis and Taylor Best, who contributed one a piece.

Toronto Lakeshore was helped by Doug Bonar, who racked up one goal. Bonar scored 7:21 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. Sam Smagala picked up the assist. James De Haas also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Robbie Murden, who had one and Wes Deme, who had two.

The Fury's Tyler Feaver stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Whitby incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Joseph Pianta made 25 saves for the Patriots on 28 shots. Toronto Lakeshore incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors.
