Niagara Falls falls to Port Colborne in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

Charlie Izaguirre gave the Port Colborne Pirates a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Niagara Falls Canucks when he scored 6:47 into the extra period.

The win gave Port Colborne a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Pirates overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Port Colborne fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Niagara Falls' Peter Hermenegildo at 10:42 in the second period. The Pirates tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Dayne Phillips at 14:09 in the third period.

The Canucks' power play was ineffective against Port Colborne's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Niagara Falls was unable to stop the Pirates from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Colborne eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. The Pirates were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 14 chances.

Zach DeConcilys also scored for Port Colborne. More assists for Port Colborne came via Patrick Murphy, who had one and James Tyminski, who had three.

The Canucks' offense rang up 35 shots on Port Colborne's net. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Niagara Falls was helped by Ryan Wiley, who racked up one goal. Wiley scored on the power play 21 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls. Hermenegildo assisted on the tally. In addition, Niagara Falls received assists from Marcus Quinlin, Cam McLean, and Drew Berkel, who each chipped in one.

The Pirates' Real Cormier stopped 33 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Port Colborne incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with 11 minors. For the Pirates, Jordan Warren was ejected from the game. Cody Vinnai made 46 saves for the Canucks on 49 shots. Niagara Falls incurred 68 minutes in penalty time with 14 minors.
