Cerilli leads Thorold over St. Catharines, 5-1

The Thorold Blackhawks' Greg Cerilli had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing three assists in his team's 5-1 win over the St. Catharines Falcons.

Cerilli beat Brad Pope with a shot 1:12 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Thorold. Colt Kennedy provided the assist. Cerilli dished an assist on Kennedy's goal that made the score 1-1 at 11:59 into the first period. He then added assists on Robert MacFarlane's goal at 4:14 into the third and on Kennedy's goal at 6:37 into the third.

The win moved Thorold to down 2-1 in the best of seven series.

The Blackhawks' Evan Buitenhuis was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 42 saves and let only one puck past him. Buitenhuis managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.34 prior to the game.

Thorold stifled St. Catharines' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Thorold also got a goal from Joel Forestell as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Tanner Hildebrandt, who had two and Mike Purcell, Owen Sobchak, and Matthew Hoszko, who each chipped in one.

The Falcons' offense rang up 43 shots on the Blackhawks' net.

St. Catharines was led by Luke Karaim, who scored the team's only goal. Karaim scored 1:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. Catharines. Jimmy Sheehan assisted on the tally.

Thorold incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Pope recorded 23 saves for the Falcons. St. Catharines incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
