Strathroy outlasts Sarnia, 3-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Strathroy Rockets escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Sarnia Legionnaires.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Jordan McNaughton at 9:49 of the second period.

The win gave Strathroy a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

McNaughton had a great game for the Rockets, netting two goals.

Strathroy's penalty kill excelled, as the Rockets gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Strathroy's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Strathroy additionally got points from Davis Brown, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Strathroy came via Ryan Field, Chase Thornton, and Nick Boyer, who each chipped in one.

Sarnia excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances.

The Legionnaires were helped by Brent Sauve, who registered one goal. Sauve scored 13:42 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Derek D`Andrea provided the assist. Nathan Mater also scored for Sarnia. Other players who recorded assists for Sarnia were Shawn Waldie and Anthony Donati, who contributed one a piece.

Dalen Kuchmey rejected 28 shots on goal for the Rockets. Strathroy incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Sarnia's Kyle Washer stopped 21 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Legionnaires incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
