Gillette squeaks by Missoula, 5-3Campbell County Ice Arena Sat, Mar 17, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Gillette gutted out a close 5-3 win against Missoula. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tyler Cavan's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. After the loss made the series score 3-1 in the best of seven series, Missoula faces elimination next time out. Gillette's penalty kill excelled, as Gillette gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. Gillette was led by Cavan, who registered one goal and one assist. Cavan scored 2:40 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Gillette. Jason Forney provided the assist. Gillette also got points from Matt Rose, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Gillette also got a goal from Trent Dillinger as well. Other players who recorded assists for Gillette were Adam Pecht and Casey Moneer, who each chipped in one and Andrew Lillard and John Burke, who contributed two a piece. Missoula's offense rang up 40 shots on Gillette's net. Missoula was helped by Cory Shafer, who racked up one goal. Shafer scored 7:32 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Missoula. Dunk Abbott assisted on the tally. Zach Paisley also scored for Missoula. More assists for Missoula came via Oscar Bjorkander, who had one and Jimmy Morris, who had two. Gillette's Nick Vittori stopped 37 shots out of the 40 that he faced. Gillette totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. McKinlee Baum rejected 16 shots on goal for Missoula. Missoula ended with 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major.
