Delhi holds on for 5-4 win against St. George

The Delhi Travellers survived a determined comeback attempt by the St. George Dukes on the way to a 5-4 win.

Delhi took a 5-3 lead during the third period, only to have St. George storm back on a Alex Whiffing goal 20:00 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The win moved the Travellers to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Reid Morrison had a great game for Delhi, netting two goals.

The Travellers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five St. George power plays. Delhi kept the Dukes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Tanner Armstrong made 39 saves on 44 shots.

Cody Stout also scored for Delhi. Other players who recorded assists for Delhi were Josh Bradshaw, Harrison McRobert, Travis Harper, Ethan Werger, and Jake Legein, who each chipped in one and Nathan Moyaert and Derek Friesen, who contributed two a piece.

St. George forced the Travellers goalie Nick Heath to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. The Dukes struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 33 penalty minutes for nine opposing power plays.

St. George was helped by Chris Vasile, who tallied two goals. Vasile scored the first of his two goals at 17:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 St. George. Josh Mitton assisted on the tally. Vasile's next tally made the score 2-0 St. George with 1:40 left in the first period. The Dukes played down a man on Parker McIntyre's slashing. Mitton picked up the assist. St. George also got a goal from Josh Wrobel as well. More assists for St. George came via Dennis Larson, who had one and Jamie Snow, who had two.

Delhi's Heath stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that he faced. The Travellers ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Delhi, Mike DeCoene was ejected from the game. St. George ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andrew Huddle was ejected from the game.
