Stouffville falls to Newmarket in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Newmarket Hurricanes pulled out a 5-4 (OT) overtime victory over the Stouffville Spirit on a clutch goal by Taylor Chick.

After the loss made the series score 3-2 in the best of seven series, Stouffville faces elimination next time out.

Newmarket overcame a four-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Hurricanes was down 4-0 after a goal by the Spirit's Andrew Doyle at 13:15 in the second period. Newmarket tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Jake Weidner at 14:08 in the third period.

Weidner had one goal and three assists to lead the Hurricanes.

Newmarket kept Stouffville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Hall made 38 saves on 43 shots.

Newmarket additionally got points from Morgan Bonner, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Tyson LeBlanc, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Matt Dineen also scored for Newmarket. More assists for Newmarket came via Alex Bontje, Adam Davies, and Austin Rigney, who contributed one a piece.

The Spirit did not rack up many penalties in the contest, registering a minimal one minor for two minutes in penalty time.

Stouffville was helped by Chris Porter, who tallied one goal. Porter scored 1:20 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Stouffville. Matthew Heffernan picked up the assist. Stouffville also got points from Alex Botten, who also had one goal and one assist. Stouffville also got a goal from Marko Brelih as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Christian Finch, who had one and Christian Powers and Michael Robinson, who contributed two a piece.

The Hurricanes' Matthew Wintjes stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Newmarket incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Spirit registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
