Newmarket survives Stouffville comeback, wins 4-3Stouffville Arena Sat, Mar 10, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Newmarket Hurricanes survived a determined comeback attempt by the Stouffville Spirit on the way to a 4-3 win. Newmarket made the score 3-1 on a goal by Daniel Leavens at 2:24 in the third period, and Stouffville got as close as 3-2 when Chris Porter scored 3:46 into the third period. With the win, the Hurricanes evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Newmarket was sparked by David Savery, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Savery scored 12:23 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Newmarket. Leavens picked up the assist. The Spirit were unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Newmarket eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Newmarket also got points from Morgan Bonner, who also registered one goal and one assist. Phil Grainger also scored for Newmarket. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Lester Brown, who had one and Jeff DiNallo and Bowman Webster, who contributed two a piece. Stouffville forced the Hurricanes goalie Jason Pucciarelli to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Stouffville additionally got points from Christian Powers, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Drake Caggiula, who had two and Eric Wintjes, Christian Finch, and Paul Geiger, who each chipped in one. Pucciarelli recorded 28 saves for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jonathan Hall rejected 40 shots on goal for the Spirit. Stouffville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
