Toronto Lakeshore hangs on, beats St. Michaels 3-1Mastercard Centre Wed, Mar 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Matt Buckles scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots held off the challenges of the St. Michaels Buzzers in a tough 3-1 win. A goal 7:44 into the the first period by Buckles proved to be the game winner, and powered Toronto Lakeshore to the victory Brody Heleno provided the assist.With the win, the Patriots evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown. Toronto Lakeshore was led by goalie Joseph Pianta, who finished with 30 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Pianta will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.85. The Patriots were paced by Kyle Dutra, who grabbed one goal. Dutra scored 17:54 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Toronto Lakeshore. Ryan Kinsella assisted on the tally. Toronto Lakeshore's offense rang up 32 shots on St. Michaels' net. The Patriots did not rack up many penalties in the contest, totaling just one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Daniel Tedesco also scored for Toronto Lakeshore. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto Lakeshore were Shane Cavalieri, Doug Bonar, and Luke Shiplo, who each chipped in one. Toronto Lakeshore was unable to stop the Buzzers from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Michaels eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. The Buzzers were led by Michael Neville, who scored the team's only goal. Neville scored 6:31 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Toronto Lakeshore. Josh Herrington picked up the assist. The Patriots registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. St. Michaels' Adrian Ignagni stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Buzzers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
