Lakefield falls to Clarington in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Clarington Eagles' Justin Devouge scored 6:30 into overtime to beat the Lakefield Chiefs, 5-4 (OT).

The win by Clarington broke a deadlock and gave the Eagles a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Although Clarington was up by as many as three goals in the second period, Lakefield kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The Chiefs got to within 4-3 on a power play goal by Nathan Larson at 14:57 in the third period.

The Eagles got the win behind a great game by Devouge, who had two goals and two assists. Devouge scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:06 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Clarington. A cross checking penalty on Travis Brault had put Clarington on the power play. Courtland Black-Araujo picked up the assist. Devouge's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Clarington with 13:30 left in overtime. The Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Connor Blair was put in the box for hooking. Brett Brown assisted on the tally.

Clarington also got a goal from Sam Jackson as well. More assists for Clarington came via Cody Graham and Kyle Richardson, who each chipped in one.

Stephen Woodbeck also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Dustin Cook, Curtis Bolton, Tyler Stone, Mike Madgett, and Eric Oosting, who contributed one a piece.

Clarington incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. For the Eagles, Jake Choiniere was ejected from the game. Lakefield incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
