St. Michaels downs Toronto Lakeshore in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

Braedan Russell gave the St. Michaels Buzzers a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots when he scored 2:49 into the extra period.

The win gave St. Michaels a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Buzzers got the win behind a great game by Mark Cooper, who had two goals and two assists. Cooper scored the first of his two goals at 13:37 into the first period to make the score 2-0 St. Michaels. David Italiano provided the assist. Cooper's next tally made the score 3-2 St. Michaels with 10:38 left in the third period. Italiano assisted on the tally.

St. Michaels kept Toronto Lakeshore's goalie busy throughout the game, and Joseph Pianta made 40 saves on 45 shots.

Patrick McCarron also scored for St. Michaels. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from Tommy Sumi, who had two and Daniel Milne, Erlich Doerksen, Anthony Rizzo, and Tom Haley, who each chipped in one.

The Patriots excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Buzzers were unable to stop Toronto Lakeshore from sending pucks towards the net, and the Patriots eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Toronto Lakeshore was led by Robbie Murden, who finished with three goals. Toronto Lakeshore also got a goal from Daniel Tedesco as well. More assists for Toronto Lakeshore came via Rob Simpson, Shane Cavalieri, Dylan Carter, Alex D Oliveira, Doug Bonar, Kyle Dutra, Luke Shiplo, and Matt Buckles, who contributed one a piece.

Adrian Ignagni recorded 36 saves for St. Michaels. The Buzzers incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Patriots incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
