Caggiula leads Stouffville over Newmarket, 6-2

The Stouffville Spirit's Drake Caggiula had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 6-2 win over the Newmarket Hurricanes.

Caggiula got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 7:23 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Stouffville. Stouffville had taken the advantage when Newmarket's Daniel Leavens got sent off for interference. Christian Finch assisted on the tally. Caggiula dished an assist on Christian Powers' goal that made the score 4-1 Stouffville at 8:39 into the second period. He added another helper on Finch's goal that made the score 5-2 Stouffville at 12:26 into the second period.

The win gave the Spirit a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Stouffville made Hurricanes' goaltenders to work all game long, firing 33 shots and forcing 27 saves. Matthew Wintjes made 15 stops and Jason Pucciarelli made 12.

Brandon Gaudette also scored for Stouffville. In addition, Stouffville received assists from Josh Chapman, Chris Porter, Robert Powers, and Paul Geiger, who each chipped in one.

The Hurricanes kept the Spirit's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jonathan Hall made 34 saves on 36 shots.

Newmarket was helped by Morgan Bonner, who tallied one goal. Bonner scored on the power play 10:28 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Stouffville. The Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Matthew Heffernan was whistled for tripping. Newmarket also got a goal from Phil Grainger as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Austin Rigney and Bowman Webster, who contributed one a piece.

Stouffville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Newmarket incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For the Hurricanes, Rigney was ejected from the game.
