Hintz's goals lift St. Louis to 3-1 victory over Quad City

Affton Ice Rink    Fri, Mar 16, 2012

Behind a great game by Robert Hintz, who had two goals, the St. Louis Jr. Blues defeated the Quad City Jr. Flames, 3-1.

Hintz's tallies came at 8:14 into the second period to make the score 1-1 and 16:50 into the second to make the score 3-1 St. Louis.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Quad City faces elimination next time out.

St. Louis put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Jr. Flames to score on any of their four power plays. The Jr. Blues forced Quad City goalie Michael Meadows to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Kerry McGlynn also scored for St. Louis. More assists for St. Louis came via Trace Jablin, who had two and Andy Thurby, who had three.

The Jr. Flames stifled St. Louis' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Quad City was led by Jared Fielden, who scored the team's only goal. Fielden scored 14:54 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Quad City. Drake Fisher assisted on the tally.

Mitchell Fernsler made 20 saves for the Jr. Blues on 21 shots. St. Louis totaled 29 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. Meadows rejected 46 shots on goal for the Jr. Flames. Quad City ended with 33 minutes in penalty time with nine minors and one major.
