Quad City beats St. Louis 4-3 after comeback scare

The St. Louis Jr. Blues tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Quad City Jr. Flames would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

Quad City made the score 4-1 on a goal by Corey Sikich at 18:26 in the second period, and St. Louis got as close as 4-3 when Johnny Mueller scored 19:05 into the third period.

The Jr. Flames evened the best of three series at 1-1 and forced a deciding game three.

In a losing effort, the Jr. Blues were paced by Mueller, who racked up two goals. Mueller scored the first of his two goals at 18:24 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Daniel Rosse provided the assist. Mueller's next tally made the score Quad City with 55 seconds left in the third period. A hooking penalty on Abraham Liebel had put St. Louis on the power play. Ryan Basgall assisted on the tally.

Quad City got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

The Jr. Flames were helped by Jared Fielden, who had one goal and one assist. Fielden scored on the power play 15:03 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Quad City. Quad City had gotten the advantage when the Jr. Blues' Paul OConnor was sent off for high sticking. Sikich picked up the assist. Quad City also got a goal from David Becker as well. More assists for Quad City came via Luke McCarthy, who had two and Tony Buchal, Toms Taurins, and Drake Fisher, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Flames were unable to stop St. Louis from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Blues eventually piled up 48 shots on goal. The defensemen of St. Louis were also effective in Quad City's zone, and came away with two goals.

Robert Hintz also scored for St. Louis. In addition, St. Louis received assists from Andy Thurby, who had one.

Tanner Jones made 45 saves for the Jr. Flames on 48 shots. Quad City incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Jr. Blues' starting goalie, Clint Steinmeyer, made 11 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Mitchell Fernsler, who stopped six shots. St. Louis totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play.
