Davidson's big game bests Mitchell in 5-1 Walkerton win

The Walkerton Hawks were firing on all cylinders against the Mitchell Hawks, and when the final buzzer sounded Hawks emerged with a 5-1 win.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, Mitchell faces elimination next time out.

Walkerton pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 46 penalty minutes.

The Hawks' penalty kill managed to stymie the Hawks' power play, giving up only one goal while playing with a man down.

Walkerton was led by Drew Davidson, who had one goal and two assists. Davidson scored on the power play 18:30 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Walkerton. The Hawks had gotten the advantage when Mitchell's Tyler McNaughton was sent off for interference. Eric Lekun picked up the assist. Walkerton additionally got points from Jay Thomson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Dylan Bults, who also registered one goal and one assist. Adam Alexander also scored for Walkerton. Other players who recorded assists for Walkerton were Jordan Turcotte, who had one and Brad Humberstone, who had two.

The Hawks were led by Tyler Tolton, who scored the team's only goal. Tolton scored on the power play 14:46 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mitchell had gained a power play chance when Mike Bujold was whistled for slashing. Jalen Aitcheson provided the assist.

Walkerton's Jeff Flagler stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Hawks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Drew Reinhardt made 25 saves for the Hawks on 29 shots. Mitchell incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
