AURORA beats ETOBICOKE 6-1 as Johnston gets hat trick

Mackenzie Johnston netted a hat trick to lead AURORA over ETOBICOKE, 6-1.

Johnston notched her first tally 10:29 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:31 into the third and at 12:27 into the third.

The win gave AURORA a 1-0 lead in the best of five series.

AURORA's penalty kill excelled, as AURORA gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

AURORA stifled ETOBICOKE's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. ETOBICOKE was unable to stop AURORA from sending pucks towards the net, and AURORA eventually piled up 50 shots on goal. AURORA could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 16 minutes in penalties during the game.

AURORA also got points from Caroline DeBruin(A), who also registered one goal and one assist. Hailey Noronha also scored for AURORA. In addition, AURORA received assists from Jackie Normandeau (PU), Alie Brindamour-McClure(A), Jessica Gillham, and Paula Voorheis, who contributed one a piece and Courtney Brindamour-McClure(A) and Brianna Veerman(A), who each chipped in two.

ETOBICOKE struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 20 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

ETOBICOKE was led by Megan Farrell, who scored the team's only goal. Farrell scored 4:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 AURORA. Nicole Atkinson assisted on the tally.

Voorheis rejected 17 shots on goal for AURORA. Amanda Smith recorded 44 saves for ETOBICOKE.
