Alliston rips Stayner, 6-1New Tecumseth Rec Centre Fri, Mar 09, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Alliston Hornets had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-1 win over the Stayner Siskins. The win by Alliston clinched the best of seven series at 0-4. The Hornets' penalty kill excelled, as Alliston gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. The Hornets were sparked by Randy Cox, who registered one goal. Cox scored 17 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Alliston. Cole Parker picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:06 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Stayner was unable to stop Alliston from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hornets eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Alliston's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Hornets finished with 43 penalty minutes. Alliston also got points from Mike Campeau, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Alliston also got a goal from Matt Thompson as well. In addition, Alliston received assists from Mark ODonnell, who had two and Blake Stephenson, Andre Lessard, David Leblanc, Tanner Dockerty, and Cody Rhodes, who contributed one a piece. The Siskins struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 33 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. Stayner was led by Riley Brooks, who scored the team's only goal. Brooks scored on the power play 3:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Alliston. The Siskins had taken the advantage when Alliston's Thompson got sent off for head contact. Bradley Latour assisted on the tally. The Hornets' Robbie Alsop stopped 21 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Alliston ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lessard was ejected from the game. Jordan Lee made 33 saves for Stayner on 39 shots. Team's Corey De Rose and Latour were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
