Alliston beats Stayner 5-3 after comeback scare

The Stayner Siskins tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Alliston Hornets held on for a 5-3 victory.

A goal by Zenon Byblow put Alliston up 5-1 in the second period, but Stayner pulled to within two on Cooper Martin's tally 16:15 into the third period.

After the loss made the series score 3-0 in the best of seven series, the Siskins face elimination next time out.

Randy Cox had two goals and one assist to lead the Hornets. Cox scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alliston. Alliston had gained a power play chance when Cody Brown was whistled for tripping. Matt Thompson assisted on the tally. Cox's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Alliston with 2:40 left in the first period. Mark ODonnell picked up the assist.

The Hornets' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Stayner power plays. Alliston kept Stayner's goalie busy throughout the game, and Jordan Lee made 37 saves on 42 shots. The Hornets could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game.

Alliston also got a goal from Mike Campeau as well. Other players who recorded assists for Alliston were Dakota Brooks and Bobby Sloan, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins forced Alliston goalie Robbie Alsop to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Stayner's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Siskins finished with 28 penalty minutes.

Stayner was helped by Bradley Latour, who had one goal. Latour scored 7:14 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Kurtis Sander provided the assist. Dylan Bursey also scored for Stayner. In addition, Stayner received assists from Daniel Latour, who had two and Corey De Rose and Tyler Happeney, who contributed one a piece.

Robbie Alsop made 35 saves for the Hornets on 38 shots. Alliston registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
