The Lambeth Lancers' Warren Hargraves scored 3:44 into overtime to beat the Exeter Hawks, 3-2 (OT). The win gave Lambeth a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The Lancers got the win thanks to a great game by Hargraves, who had two goals and one assist. Hargraves scored the first of his two goals at 7:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lambeth. Mike Golinowski picked up the assist. Hargraves' next tally made the score 3-2 Lambeth with 16:16 left in overtime. Exeter's power play was ineffective against Lambeth's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Lancers kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Aaron Bedard made 39 saves on 42 shots. Lambeth was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 31 penalty minutes. The Lancers' power play was punchless, and failed to score a single goal despite having nine power play opportunities. Other players who recorded assists for Lambeth were Conor Chilvers, who had two. Exeter stifled Lambeth's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lancers were unable to stop the Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Exeter eventually piled up 41 shots on goal. The Hawks' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Exeter finished with 29 penalty minutes. The Hawks were helped by Kalvin Thornton, who finished with one goal and one assist. Thornton scored on the power play 9:45 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Exeter had gained a power play chance when Rob Ruggiero was whistled for roughing. Trevor Thornton assisted on the tally. Exeter also got points from Matthew Ross, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Exeter came via Dylan Bedard, who had one. JP Trudell rejected 39 shots on goal for Lambeth. The Lancers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alec Cooke was ejected from the game. For the Hawks, Ryan Consitt was ejected from the game.
