St. Thomas blows out St. Marys, 7-2

The St. Thomas Stars had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the St. Marys Lincolns.

St. Thomas evened the best of seven series at 3-3 and forced a deciding game seven.

Colin Mooney was all over the ice for the Stars, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Mooney scored the first of his two goals at 13:14 into the first period to make the score 3-2 St. Thomas. Matt Schurr assisted on the tally. Mooney's next tally made the score 6-2 St. Thomas with 16:19 left in the third period. A fighting penalty on Jordan Leyser had put St. Thomas on the power play. Drew Collinson picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:26 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Stars forced St. Marys' netminders to work all game long, taking 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Craig Wood made one stops and Devin Golets made 33. St. Thomas stifled the Lincolns' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

St. Thomas also got points from Blake Thomas, who also racked up one goal and one assist. St. Thomas also got a goal from Alex Cremasco as well. More assists for St. Thomas came via Brett Hope, who had three and Mark Raycroft, Scott Mitchell, Marcus Michalski, and Davis Boyer, who each chipped in one.

The Stars were unable to stop St. Marys from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lincolns eventually piled up 35 shots on goal. St. Marys was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time.

The Lincolns were helped by Brendon Merritt, who tallied one goal. Merritt scored 6:48 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Sean Consitt assisted on the tally. In addition, St. Marys received assists from Calvin Penney and Brady Wiffen, who contributed one a piece.

Michael Slaats made 33 saves for St. Thomas on 35 shots. The Stars totaled 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and two majors and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Team's Mitchell and Chris Maton were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. St. Marys registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For the Lincolns, Danny Bryan and Leyser were ejected from the contest.
