St. Marys beats St. Thomas 4-3 after comeback scare

The St. Thomas Stars tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the St. Marys Lincolns held on for a 4-3 victory.

St. Marys made the score 4-1 on a goal by Mike Mandarelli at 8:00 in the second period, and St. Thomas got as close as 4-3 when Scott Mitchell scored 7:48 into the third period.

The win moved the Lincolns to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Mandarelli had a great game for St. Marys, netting two goals.

The Stars were unable to stop the Lincolns from sending pucks towards the net, and St. Marys eventually piled up 42 shots on goal.

St. Marys also got points from Brendon Merritt, who also tallied one goal and two assists and Reid Oliver, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Other players who recorded assists for St. Marys were Shayne Rhyno, who had one.

St. Thomas forced the Lincolns goalie Craig Wood to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots.

The Stars were helped by Davis Boyer, who racked up one goal. Boyer scored 17:39 into the second period to make the score 4-2 St. Marys. Alex Cremasco assisted on the tally. Brett Hope also scored for St. Thomas. In addition, St. Thomas received assists from Mark Raycroft and Drew Collinson, who contributed one a piece.

Craig Wood made 39 saves for St. Marys on 42 shots. The Lincolns incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Michael Slaats rejected 38 shots on goal for St. Thomas. The Stars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
