Wood leads St. Marys to shutout victory over St. ThomasPyramid Recreation Centre Tue, Feb 28, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Craig Wood made 27 saves to complete the shutout and led the St. Marys Lincolns to a 3-0 win against the St. Thomas Stars. The win gave St. Marys a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. The referees were busy during the game, as 16 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest. The Lincolns were led by Sean Consitt, who finished with one goal and one assist. Consitt scored 12:11 into the second period to make the score 2-0 St. Marys. Brady Wiffen picked up the assist. St. Marys stifled St. Thomas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Lincolns struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. St. Marys also got a goal from Calvin Penney as well. More assists for St. Marys came via Kurtis Lavis, Blake Thompson, and Brendon Merritt, who contributed one a piece. The Stars were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes. St. Marys registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Michael Slaats recorded 23 saves for St. Thomas.
