Brantford downs Kitchener in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Brantford Golden Eagles pulled out a 3-2 (OT) overtime victory over the Kitchener Dutchmen on a clutch goal by Dave Lazurus.

The win by Brantford clinched the best of seven series at 2-4.

Kitchener's power play was ineffective against the Golden Eagles' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Brantford was paced by Lazurus, who tallied one goal. Lazurus scored on the power play 4:52 into overtime to make the score 3-2 Brantford. The Golden Eagles earned a power play opportunity when Paul Sergi was put in the box for tripping. Jeff Swift assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:38 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Brantford's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Kitchener power plays. The Golden Eagles kept the Dutchmen's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mario Duscio made 43 saves on 46 shots. Brantford was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time.

Brantford additionally got points from Mike Rebry, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brantford also got a goal from Tyler Norrie as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Brett Appio, Mike Riley, and Dillan Walker, who each chipped in one.

The Golden Eagles were unable to stop Kitchener from sending pucks towards the net, and the Dutchmen eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Kitchener found itself short handed often, totaling 29 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

The Dutchmen were led by Keli Grant, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Grant scored 6:12 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Kitchener. Philip Moser provided the assist. More assists for Kitchener came via John Divo and David Jennings, who contributed one a piece.

Bryce O Hagan recorded 29 saves for Brantford. For the Golden Eagles, Trent Hawke and Riley were ejected from the contest. Kitchener ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Guild was ejected from the game.
