Strathroy beats Leamington 4-3 after comeback scare

The Leamington Flyers tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Strathroy Rockets would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-3.

A goal by Jordan McNaughton put Strathroy up 4-1 in the second period, but Leamington pulled to within one on Tyler Quigley's tally 18:46 into the third period.

The win by the Rockets clinched the best of seven series at 2-4.

The Flyers' power play was ineffective against Strathroy's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Rockets kept Leamington's goalie busy throughout the game, and Colin Greeley made 35 saves on 39 shots. The defensemen of Strathroy were also effective in the Flyers' zone, and came away with three goals.

The Rockets were helped by Tyler Coleman, who registered one goal and one assist. Coleman scored short handed 11:55 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Strathroy. Strathroy played down a man on Mitch McNeill's high sticking. Dylan Wilson-Foote picked up the assist. Strathroy also got points from Brian Brosnan, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Strathroy were Jacob Baribeau, who had two and Ryan Field and Justin Thomas, who contributed one a piece.

Leamington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Strathroy power plays. The Rockets were unable to stop the Flyers from sending pucks towards the net, and Leamington eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

Leamington also got a goal from Dakota Olvin as well. More assists for Leamington came via Alex Seguin, who had two and Brett Babkirk, Cheyne Matheson, and Tony Spidalieri, who each chipped in one.

Dalen Kuchmey recorded 38 saves for Strathroy. The Rockets incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. The Flyers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
