Sarnia outlasts Lambton Shores, 5-4

The game between the Sarnia Legionnaires and the Lambton Shores Predators was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Sarnia emerged with a 5-4 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Evan Dixon secured the win for the Legionnaires with a goal in the third period.

The win gave Sarnia a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Tyler Cicchini and Jesse Drydak provided the spark for the Legionnaires, combining for three goals and three assists. Cicchini racked up two goals and one assist and Drydak also notched one goal and two assists.

Sarnia's penalty kill excelled, as the Legionnaires gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Sarnia forced Lambton Shores goalie Brandon Campbell to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Legionnaires' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Sarnia finished with 20 penalty minutes.

Sarnia additionally got points from Anthony Donati, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Sarnia received assists from Shawn Waldie, who had three and Jeff Paulley, Jason Teschke, and Brent Sauve, who each chipped in one.

The Predators found themselves short handed often, totaling 18 penalty minutes and allowing five power plays.

Lambton Shores was led by Adam Arseneault, who registered two goals. Arseneault scored the first of his two goals at 9:49 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Sarnia. Brett Thompson picked up the assist. Arseneault's next tally made the score 4-4 with 7:39 left in the third period. The Predators earned a power play opportunity when Ryan Verbeek was put in the box for slashing. Thompson provided the assist. Tanner Ferguson also scored for Lambton Shores. More assists for Lambton Shores came via Ryan Rontondi, who had two and Cody Trowell, Connor Annett, and Corey Pawley, who contributed one a piece.

Kyle Washer recorded 23 saves for the Legionnaires. For Sarnia, Michael Sollazzo was ejected from the game. Campbell rejected 28 shots on goal for Lambton Shores.
