Elmira survives Listowel comeback, wins 5-3

The Elmira Sugar Kings came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Listowel Cyclones, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Elmira led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Sugar Kings' Cash Seraphim's scored at 16:02 in the first period to put Elmira up 3-0.

The win moved the Sugar Kings to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Seraphim had a great game for Elmira, netting two goals.

The Sugar Kings pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 53 penalty minutes.

Listowel was unable to stop Elmira from sending pucks towards the net, and the Sugar Kings eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Elmira additionally got points from Brett Priestap, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Elmira also got a goal from Scott Nagy as well. In addition, Elmira received assists from Brodie Whitehead, Rob Bennett, Brady Campbell, Brett Catto, and Michael Hasson, who contributed one a piece and Mac Clutsam and Will Cook, who each chipped in two.

The Cyclones stifled Elmira's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Listowel forced the Sugar Kings goalie Nick Horrigan to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. The defensemen of the Cyclones were also effective in Elmira's zone, and came away with two goals.

Listowel was helped by Sam Patterson, who had one goal. Patterson scored 18:00 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Elmira. Jeff Bauer assisted on the tally. Jarrett Kup also scored for Listowel. Other players who recorded assists for Listowel were David Dalby, Dylan Sayles, and Aaron Armstrong(APJ), who contributed one a piece.

Horrigan recorded 31 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For the Sugar Kings, Brad Kraus was ejected from the game. Michael Pesendorfer made 27 saves for the Cyclones on 32 shots. Listowel incurred 42 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Cyclones ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Patrick Bell was ejected from the game.
