Priestap lifts Elmira over Listowel, 5-2

Brett Priestap was all over the ice for the Elmira Sugar Kings, as he tallied two goals in Elmira's 5-2 win over the Listowel Cyclones.

Priestap's tallies came short handed at 10:27 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Elmira and 18:29 into the second to make the score 4-2 Elmira.

The win gave the Sugar Kings a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Elmira put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Listowel to score on any of its five power plays. The Sugar Kings forced the Cyclones goalie Michael Pesendorfer to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Brodie Whitehead also scored for Elmira. Other players who recorded assists for Elmira were Will Cook, who had one, Andrew Smith, who had two, and Brad Kraus, who had three.

Listowel's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Elmira power plays. Elmira was unable to stop the Cyclones from sending pucks towards the net, and Listowel eventually piled up 41 shots on goal.

The Cyclones were led by Caleb Cameron, who had one goal and one assist. Cameron scored 7:53 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Listowel. Sam Patterson provided the assist. Listowel also got a goal from Jeff Bauer as well. More assists for Listowel came via David Dalby and Matt Halloran, who contributed one a piece.

Nick Horrigan recorded 39 saves for the Sugar Kings. Elmira incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Listowel's Pesendorfer stopped 31 shots out of the 36 that he faced. The Cyclones incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
