Cambridge blows out Guelph, 6-3Sleeman Centre Tue, Mar 06, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Guelph Hurricanes had trouble finding ways to stop the Cambridge Winter Hawks, which beat Hurricanes, 6-3. The win moved Cambridge to down 2-1 in the best of seven series. The Winter Hawks got the win on the strength of a great game by Josh Timpano, who had two goals and one assist. Timpano scored the first of his two goals short handed at 11:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cambridge. Cambridge was on a disadvantage when Andrew Coupland went off the ice for tripping. Anthony Guido picked up the assist. Timpano's next tally short handed made the score 6-3 Cambridge with 2:44 left in the third period. The Winter Hawks earned a power play opportunity when Mitch Klie was put in the box for roughing. Ryan Clarke provided the assist. Guelph's power play was ineffective against Cambridge's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:48 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Hurricanes were unable to stop the Winter Hawks from sending pucks towards the net, and Cambridge eventually piled up 57 shots on goal. Cambridge additionally got points from Michael Christou, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Brennon Pearce, who also registered one goal and one assist. Marselis Subban also scored for Cambridge. In addition, Cambridge received assists from Cody Gratton and Jordan Pettitt, who each chipped in one. The Winter Hawks totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. For Cambridge, Brock Campbell was ejected from the game. Guelph's Colin Furlong stopped 51 shots out of the 57 that he faced. The Hurricanes ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Guelph ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Blair McIntosh was ejected from the game.
