Drew Berkel was all over the ice for the Niagara Falls Canucks, as he tallied two goals and two assists in Niagara Falls' 8-2 win over the Fort Erie Meteors. Berkel's tallies came on the power play at 14:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara Falls and 6:19 into the second to make the score 2-0 Niagara Falls.The win gave the Canucks a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series. Niagara Falls' penalty kill excelled, as the Canucks gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. Niagara Falls stifled Fort Erie's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canucks kept the Meteors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Stuart made 30 saves on 38 shots. Niagara Falls was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 18 penalty minutes. Niagara Falls additionally got points from Ben O Quinn, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Grant McLean, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and Sloan Stewart, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Marcus Quinlin also scored for Niagara Falls. More assists for Niagara Falls came via Frank Nemeth and Rob De Jaray, who contributed one a piece and Peter Hermenegildo and Ryan Wiley, who each chipped in two. The Canucks were unable to stop Fort Erie from sending pucks towards the net, and the Meteors eventually piled up 40 shots on goal. Fort Erie could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Meteors were led by Nigel Slade, who tallied one goal. Slade scored 11:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Niagara Falls. Jordan Bailey provided the assist. Fort Erie also got a goal from Brock Malatches as well. Other players who recorded assists for Fort Erie were Jesse Parker, who had one. Cody Vinnai made 38 saves for Niagara Falls on 40 shots. The Canucks registered two goals on 10 power play opportunities. For Niagara Falls, Hermenegildo was ejected from the game.
