Mass Maple Leafs rips New York Apple Core, 6-2

Mass Maple Leafs had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 6-2 win over New York Apple Core.

The win gave Mass Maple Leafs a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Mass Maple Leafs forced New York Apple Core's goalies to work without much rest, totaling 44 shots and forcing 38 saves. Brian August made 13 stops and Mark Zapson made 25. Mass Maple Leafs' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Mass Maple Leafs finished with 26 penalty minutes. Mass Maple Leafs' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Mass Maple Leafs was helped by Ryan Fehnel, who tallied one goal. Fehnel scored on the power play 7:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mass Maple Leafs. Mass Maple Leafs earned a power play opportunity when Jonathan Novak was put in the box for elbowing. Mass Maple Leafs also got points from Kurtis Garcia, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Mass Maple Leafs also got a goal from Adam McGrath as well. Other players who recorded assists for Mass Maple Leafs were Colin Cordeiro, Evan Marek, Jacob Dyl, and Sidney Thomas, who contributed one a piece.

New York Apple Core's offense rang up 31 shots on Mass Maple Leafs' net.

New York Apple Core was led by Robert DeLury, who grabbed one goal and one assist. DeLury scored on the power play 16:16 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Mass Maple Leafs. An interference penalty on Marek had put New York Apple Core on the power play. Eric Krupka assisted on the tally. Shane Higgins also scored for New York Apple Core. More assists for New York Apple Core came via Brian Hurley, who had one.

Cody Stocker recorded 29 saves for Mass Maple Leafs. Mass Maple Leafs registered two goals on six power play opportunities. New York Apple Core incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
