Belle River survives Mooretown comeback, wins 5-4

The Mooretown Flags tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Belle River Canadiens held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Scott Chauvin put Belle River up 5-2 in the third period, but Mooretown pulled to within one on Alex Dawson's tally 19:22 into the third period.

The win by the Canadiens clinched the best of seven series at 4-1.

Belle River additionally got points from Blake Jones, who also registered one goal and two assists. Belle River also got a goal from Mike Ditty as well. In addition, Belle River received assists from Dylan Impens, who had two and Cole Chevalier, Chris DiNatale, Josh Synnott, and Nik Dobrich, who contributed one a piece.

The Flags kept Belle River's goalie busy throughout the game, and Zakk Olvin made 30 saves on 34 shots. Mooretown's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Flags were led by Aaron Schieman, who had one goal and two assists. Schieman scored on the power play 3:57 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Belle River. Mooretown had gained a power play chance when Impens was whistled for handling the puck. Josh Teschke assisted on the tally. Mooretown also got points from McGregor Haddon, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Travis Mullen also scored for Mooretown. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Caden Fleming, Mike Burns, and Michael Gray, who each chipped in one.

The Canadiens incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Andrew Ganter rejected 23 shots on goal for the Flags. Mooretown incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
