Huge game by Walsh boosts Lakefield over Georgina, 8-2

Jordan Walsh had two goals and two assists to lead the Lakefield Chiefs to an 8-2 victory over the Georgina Ice.

Walsh found the back of the net 2:14 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while on the power play 4:22 into the third to make the score 6-2 Lakefield.

The win by Lakefield broke a deadlock and gave the Chiefs a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Georgina was doomed by its poor performance on special teams, as Lakefield was able to score six times while on the power play.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 36 penalties during the game.

The Chiefs outdid their season average for goals scored. Lakefield averages three goals per game. The Chiefs were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 46 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Curtis Bolton, who totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one misconduct.

Lakefield additionally got points from Connor Blair, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Mike Madgett, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Walsh, who also racked up two goals and two assists, Eric Oosting, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Hayden Lambe, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Lakefield got a goal from Tyler Roy as well. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Reid Faught, Tyler Stone, Mitchell Purdie, Nathan Larson, and Matt Perras, who contributed one each.

The Ice were often in penalty trouble, totaling 16 minors and two majors for 52 minutes in penalty time. Georgina surpassed its season average of 23 penalty minutes per game. The Ice's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Georgina averages two goals allowed per game. Team could not crack Lakefield's penalty kill and was held to two power play goals while having 14 opportunities to play with the man advantage.

The Ice were helped by Scott Sedore, who had one goal. Sedore scored on the power play 8:40 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Georgina. A hooking penalty on Stephen Woodbeck had put Georgina on the power play. Ryan Anderson assisted on the tally. Robert Evans also scored for Georgina. More assists for Georgina came via John Livingston, Scott Sandercock, and Sean Walker, who each chipped in one.

For the Ice, Anderson and Curtis Puhalski were ejected from the contest.
