Markham falls to Newmarket in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Newmarket Hurricanes pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Markham Waxers on a clutch goal by Phil Grainger.

The win by Newmarket clinched the best of seven series at 2-4.

The Hurricanes were led by Grainger, who had one goal. Grainger scored 3:53 into overtime to make the score 4-3 Newmarket. Bowman Webster assisted on the tally.

Newmarket kept Markham's goalie busy throughout the game, and Chris Perugini made 46 saves on 50 shots.

Newmarket also got a goal from Matt Dineen as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Morgan Bonner, who had two and Lester Brown, Jake Weidner, Chris Chiste, and Daniel Leavens, who each chipped in one.

The Waxers' offense rang up 31 shots on the Hurricanes' net.

Markham was helped by Andrew Radjenovic, who finished with one goal and one assist. Radjenovic scored 19:39 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Newmarket. Sammy Banga picked up the assist. Patrick Stillar also scored for Markham. More assists for Markham came via Rickey Buehler, who had one and Calvin Higley, who had two.

Matthew Wintjes rejected 28 shots on goal for Newmarket. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Waxers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
