Maksymum rolls over Syracuse Stars, 5-2

The Maksymum Junior Hockey (Rochester) were firing on all cylinders against the Syracuse Stars Junior Stars, and when the final buzzer sounded Junior Hockey (Rochester) emerged with a 5-2 win.

The win gave Maksymum a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Nathan Schuler was all over the ice for the Junior Hockey (Rochester), as he racked up two goals in the win. Schuler found the back of the net short handed 17:56 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Maksymum and again while short handed 15:54 into the third to make the score 4-1 Maksymum.

Maksymum's penalty kill excelled, as the Junior Hockey (Rochester) gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

Maksymum stifled Syracuse Stars' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Junior Hockey (Rochester) could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Others who scored for Maksymum included Mikel Williams, who had one and Kevin DiMagno, who had two. More assists for Maksymum came via Chris Morgan, Matt Meredith, and Tyler Gmerek, who each chipped in one.

Maksymum was unable to stop the Junior Stars from sending pucks towards the net, and Syracuse Stars eventually piled up 52 shots on goal.

The Junior Stars were helped by Daniel Briggs, who grabbed one goal. Briggs scored short handed 18:37 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Maksymum. A high sticking call on Nick Pappas put Syracuse Stars on the penalty kill. Erik Kurz assisted on the tally. Casie Garrison also scored for Syracuse Stars. In addition, Syracuse Stars received assists from Luke Kirwan, who had one.

Jake Bryniarski made 50 saves for the Junior Hockey (Rochester) on 52 shots. Maksymum registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Matt Schneider recorded 25 saves for the Junior Stars. Syracuse Stars incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
