Martello's hat trick boosts Jersey Hitmen over Jersey Wildcats, 6-4

James Martello lifted Jersey Hitmen to a 6-4 victory with a hat trick against the Jersey Wildcats Wildcats.

Martello's first goal came 4:31 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:39 into the first and at 19:11 into the second.

The win gave Jersey Hitmen a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Jersey Hitmen forced Jersey Wildcats goalie Mark Specia to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots.

Jersey Hitmen also got points from John Redgate, who also registered one goal and three assists. Jersey Hitmen also got a goal from Devon Duarte as well. Other players who recorded assists for Jersey Hitmen were Nicholas Farina, who had two and Cody Calcagno, Cory Sala, Steve Scholer, Matthew DaSilva, and Robby Marsanico, who contributed one a piece.

The Wildcats made Jersey Hitmen's netminders to work all game long, finishing with 39 shots and forcing 35 saves. Jordan Hulahan made 19 stops and Jacob Caffrey made 16. The defensemen of Jersey Wildcats were also effective in Jersey Hitmen's zone, and came away with two goals.

The Wildcats were led by Ryan Strapp, who finished with two goals. Strapp scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Jersey Wildcats had gained a power play chance when Nick Beatrice was whistled for cross checking. Zachary Chamberlain picked up the assist. Strapp's next tally on the power play made the score 2-1 Jersey Wildcats with 5:20 left in the first period. Scott Mogerley provided the assist. Jack Green also scored for Jersey Wildcats. More assists for Jersey Wildcats came via Christian Brown-Noel and Geoffrey Liter, who each chipped in one.

Jersey Hitmen incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Wildcats' Specia stopped 37 shots out of the 42 that he faced. Jersey Wildcats incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
