Potomac Patriots beats NY AppleCore 7-4 as Carr gets hat trick

A hat trick by Michael Carr was the highlight in Patriots' 7-4 win against the NY AppleCore Applecore Minor B.

Carr got on the scoresheet 1:43 into the first period. He then added goals at 13:14 into the second and at 19:58 into the third.

The win gave the Potomac Patriots Patriots a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

Potomac Patriots pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The Patriots made Applecore Minor B's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, launching 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. Justin Kapelmaster made 28 stops and Alexander Harwood made two.

Potomac Patriots additionally got points from Chris Howland, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Trevor Herrington also scored for Potomac Patriots. More assists for Potomac Patriots came via Isaiah Olschewske and Alexander Grose, who contributed one a piece and Peter Wydler and Nicholas Alfaro, who each chipped in two.

NY AppleCore kept Potomac Patriots' goalie busy throughout the game, and Dustyn Moyer made 49 saves on 53 shots. The Applecore Minor B found themselves short handed often, totaling 16 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

NY AppleCore was helped by Keegan Travers, who tallied one goal. Travers scored 18:57 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Potomac Patriots. Nolan Pues assisted on the tally. NY AppleCore also got a goal from Joseph Naclerio as well. Other players who recorded assists for NY AppleCore were Michael Dellatto, Ryan Cheng, and Yuriy Sokayev, who contributed one a piece.

The Applecore Minor B registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
