Simonelli's big game bests NY AppleCore in 4-1 Maksymum win

Behind a great game by Justin Simonelli, who had two goals and one assist, the Maksymum Junior Hockey (Rochester) defeated the NY AppleCore Applecore Minor B, 4-1.

Simonelli's tallies came at 6:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Maksymum and 12:54 into the third to make the score 3-1 Maksymum.

The win gave Maksymum a 1-0 lead in the best of one series.

NY AppleCore was stymied by the Junior Hockey (Rochester) netminder William Massey, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Despite the solid performance, Massey will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

The Applecore Minor B's power play was ineffective against Maksymum's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Junior Hockey (Rochester)'s penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Maksymum finished with 14 penalty minutes.

Maksymum also got a goal from Peter Vasaturo as well. In addition, Maksymum received assists from Conlan Keenan, who had three and Joe Snook and Brandon Gonzalez, who each chipped in one.

NY AppleCore was led by Yuriy Sokayev, who scored the team's only goal. Sokayev scored on the power play 9:53 into the third period to make the score 1-1. The Applecore Minor B earned a power play opportunity when Patrick Fisher was put in the box for holding. Keegan Travers assisted on the tally.

The Junior Hockey (Rochester) registered one goal on three power play opportunities. NY AppleCore's Justin Kapelmaster stopped 24 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Applecore Minor B incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
