Lakefield squeaks by Georgina, 3-2

The game between the Lakefield Chiefs and the Georgina Ice was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Lakefield emerged with a 3-2 win.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Eric Oosting at 3:38 of the third period.

With the win, the Chiefs evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Georgina's power play was ineffective against Lakefield's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Both teams had a hard time staying out of the box, and they combined for 15 penalties during the game.

The Chiefs' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Lakefield finished with 16 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Tyler Stone, who totaled six minutes in penalty time with three minors.

Lakefield also got points from Curtis Bolton, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Derek Manley also scored for Lakefield. In addition, Lakefield received assists from George Ripoll, Stephen Woodbeck, Mike Madgett, Kyle Sullivan, and Jordan Walsh, who contributed one each.

The Ice was not heavily penalized during the game, and finished with six minors and one major totalling 17 minutes. Georgina ended up below its season average of 23 penalty minutes per game.

The Chiefs registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the Ice, Tyler Berryman was ejected from the game.
