Georgina squeaks by Lakefield, 5-3

The Georgina Ice and the Lakefield Chiefs were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Georgina made the most of its opportunities and won, 5-3.

The Ice gained the winning advantage on a goal by Scott Sedore 12:49 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The win gave Georgina a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

Sedore had a great game for the Ice, netting two goals.

Georgina was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 16 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Ryan Anderson, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Others who scored for Georgina included Tyler Berryman, who had one and John Livingston, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Georgina were Cody Mainprize, who had one, Brett Humbruff, who had two, and Robert Evans, who had three.

Lakefield was led by Mike Madgett, who grabbed two goals. Madgett scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:12 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Georgina. The Chiefs had gotten the advantage when the Ice's Jesse Johnston was sent off for interference. Madgett's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 Georgina with 48 seconds left in the second period. A slashing penalty on Evans had put Lakefield on the power play. Tyler Stone provided the assist. Lakefield got a goal from Jordan Walsh as well. In addition, Lakefield received assists from Reid Faught and Derek Manley, who contributed one each.

Georgina registered two goals on five power play opportunities. The Chiefs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
