The St. Michaels Buzzers survived a determined comeback attempt by the Toronto Junior Canadiens on the way to a 2-1 win. St. Michaels made the score 2-0 on a goal by Tommy Sumi at 9:36 in the second period, and Toronto got as close as 2-1 when Joseph Santino scored 7:27 into the third period. The win by the Buzzers clinched the best of seven series at 2-4. Sumi had a great game for St. Michaels, netting two goals. The Buzzers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. St. Michaels' offense rang up 36 shots on the Junior Canadiens' net. In addition, St. Michaels received assists from Daniel Milne, Erlich Doerksen, David Italiano, and Michael Neville, who each chipped in one. Toronto kept the Buzzers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Adrian Ignagni made 35 saves on 36 shots. The Junior Canadiens did not rack up many penalties in the contest, tallying just one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto were Daniel Lombardi and Greg Whittle, who contributed one a piece. St. Michaels incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Toronto's Jamie Phillips stopped 34 shots out of the 36 that he faced. |
