Vaughan beats Toronto Lakeshore 5-4 after comeback scare

The Toronto Lakeshore Patriots tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Vaughan Vipers held on for a 5-4 victory.

Vaughan made the score 5-3 on a goal by Andrew Fullerton at 10:44 in the third period, and Toronto Lakeshore got as close as 5-4 when James Ryan scored 13:59 into the third period.

With the win, the Vipers evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

Vaughan pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 16 penalty minutes.

The defensemen of the Vipers were also effective in the Patriots' zone, and came away with two goals.

Vaughan also got points from Anthony Mastrodicasa, who also had one goal and two assists, Ryan Clarkson, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Fullerton, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mike Vallescuro also scored for Vaughan. In addition, Vaughan received assists from Michael Apreda and Robert Ward, who each chipped in one and Matt Silcoff and Travis Fulton, who contributed two each.

Toronto Lakeshore made Vipers' goaltenders to work without much rest, racking up 31 shots and forcing 27 saves. George Argiropoulos made 10 stops and Victor Adamo made 17.

Toronto Lakeshore additionally got points from James De Haas, who also registered one goal and one assist and Robbie Murden, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Toronto Lakeshore were Daniel Tedesco, Shane Cavalieri, Doug Bonar, Kyle Dutra, and Matt Buckles, who each chipped in one.

Vaughan registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Joseph Pianta took the loss and made 15 saves before being replaced by Cory Simic who made three saves. The Patriots incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
