Lewis leads Whitby over Cobourg, 6-2

Jack Lewis was all over the ice for the Whitby Fury, as he tallied two goals and one assist in Whitby's 6-2 win over the Cobourg Cougars.

Lewis found the back of the net on the power play 15:33 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Whitby and again while on the power play 14:32 into the second to make the score 6-1 Whitby.

The win moved the Fury to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Whitby forced Cougars' netminders to work without much rest, finishing with 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Emerson Verrier made 22 stops and Keinan Brown made 13. The Fury put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Cobourg to score on any of its three power plays. Whitby's goal total was higher than its season average. The Fury average three goals per game.

Whitby also got points from Lewis, who also registered two goals and one assist and Peter Neal, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Zachary Graham also scored for Whitby. Other players who recorded assists for Whitby were Matt Davis, who had three and Devin Shore, who had four.

Whitby was unable to stop the Cougars from sending pucks towards the net, and Cobourg eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Cougars found themselves short handed often, totaling 28 penalty minutes and allowing 10 power plays. The leading offender was Dylon McMahon, who totaled 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one misconduct.

Cobourg was helped by Justin Danforth, who racked up one goal. Danforth scored 16:18 into the third period to make the score 6-2 Whitby. Shaquille Hickey provided the assist. Cobourg got a goal from Dylan Goddard as well. More assists for Cobourg came via Connor Armour, who had one.

The Fury's Tyler Feaver stopped 35 shots out of the 37 that he faced. Whitby incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
