Weitzel stymies Wisconsin, Ft. Wayne wins 3-1

Jesse Weitzel stood on his head and made 41 saves to lead the Ft. Wayne Federals to a 3-1 victory over the Wisconsin Rampage.

After the loss made the series score 1-0 in the best of three series, Wisconsin faces elimination next time out.

Ft. Wayne was led by Nicholas Denice, who registered one goal. Denice scored on the power play 1:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Ft. Wayne. The Federals had gotten the advantage when the Rampage's Jakob Smith was sent off for head contact. Austin Allard provided the assist.

Ft. Wayne put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wisconsin to score on any of its four power plays. The Federals forced the Rampage goalie Kyle Weiner to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Ft. Wayne also got a goal from Brendan Lewis as well. Other players who recorded assists for Ft. Wayne were Spencer Johnson, Cody Hess, and Ian Harris, who contributed one a piece.

Wisconsin's offense rang up 42 shots on Ft. Wayne's net. The Rampage's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Wisconsin finished with 26 penalty minutes.

The Rampage were led by Thomas Tambourine, who scored the team's only goal. Tambourine scored 48 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wisconsin. James Pooler assisted on the tally.

The Federals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Weiner rejected 43 shots on goal for Wisconsin.
