Picton penalty kill dominates in 6-2 defeat of Port Hope

The Picton Pirates' penalty kill was superb, as Picton survived multiple penalties to beat the Port Hope Panthers, 6-2.

The win by the Pirates clinched the best of seven series at 4-0.

Picton was paced by Abbott Girduckis, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Girduckis scored on the power play 7:36 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Picton. Dylan Mountenay picked up the assist.

The Pirates forced Port Hope's goaltenders to work in net, firing 40 shots and forcing 34 saves. DJ Torrenueva made 26 stops and Justin Urquhart made eight. Picton excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances.

Picton also got points from Mountenay, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Picton also had goals scored by Wil Healey, Jack Davison, Tyler Kearns, and Mitch Rosborough, who scored one goal each. In addition, Picton received assists from Pat Millington, who had one and Dylan Burdick, Nic Shunock, Evan Greer, and Ryan Sizer, who each chipped in two.

The Pirates were unable to stop the Panthers from sending pucks towards the net, and Port Hope eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

The Panthers were helped by Matt Garner, who tallied one goal. Garner scored 46 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Port Hope. Josh Fulford provided the assist. Nicholas Camalleri also scored for Port Hope. More assists for Port Hope came via Graham Snoek and Caleb Oliver, who contributed one each.

Matt Kaludis rejected 38 shots on goal for Picton. The Pirates incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Port Hope incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
