Space Coast Hurricanes vanquishes Hampton Roads in shootout, 6-5 (4-3 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Space Coast Hurricanes defeated Hampton Roads in a shootout 6-5 (4-3 SO).

The shootout lasted for 14 attempts between the teams. Hampton Roads got shootout goals from Ryan Salkeld, Scott Cornfield, and Paul Hefferin. Space Coast Hurricanes' other shootout goals were scored by Jack Musil, mark woinicki, and Crissostomos Villarreal.

Space Coast Hurricanes saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Space Coast Hurricanes made the score 4-2 on a power play goal by Joseph Petrizzo at 18:52 in the second period. Hampton Roads evened things up at 5-5 on a power play goal by Ryan Collins at 16:11 in the third period.

Space Coast Hurricanes was helped by Villarreal, who tallied two goals. Villarreal scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 2:20 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Hampton Roads. Space Coast Hurricanes had gained a power play chance when Lee Jenkins was whistled for slashing. Jamie Chilcott provided the assist. Villarreal's next tally on the power play made the score 2-2 with 15:31 left in the second period. Space Coast Hurricanes earned a power play opportunity when Gerald Owen was put in the box for slashing. Musil picked up the assist. Space Coast Hurricanes also got points from Chilcott, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Andrew Sanders, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Space Coast Hurricanes received assists from Jonah Bolton, who had one.

Hampton Roads was helped by Hefferin, who grabbed one goal and two assists. Hefferin scored on the power play 13:06 into the third period to make the score 4-4. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Freddie had put Hampton Roads on the power play. Owen provided the assist. Hampton Roads additionally got points from Salkeld, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Nicholas Szalacinski also scored for Hampton Roads. More assists for Hampton Roads came via Dalton Gilbert and Matthew Culcasi, who contributed one each.
