Ayr beats Wellesley 5-0 as Gauthier gets hat trick

A hat trick by Tyler Gauthier was the highlight in Centennials' 5-0 win against the Wellesley Applejacks.

Gauthier's first goal came 5:29 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:20 into the second and at 3:36 into the second.

The win by the Ayr Centennials broke a deadlock and gave Ayr a 2-1 advantage in the best of seven series.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:29 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Centennials penalty box was a busy place as the team totaled six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16 minutes per game Ayr had been spending in the box. The Centennials' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Wellesley power plays.

Ayr additionally got points from Gauthier, who also grabbed three goals and one assist. Ayr got a goal from Jordan Eby as well. More assists for Ayr came via Jay Fried, Alex Richard, and Andrew Richard, who contributed one each and Andrew Tapsell and Adam Brubacher, who each chipped in two.

Lee Doherty made 15 saves for Ayr on 15 shots. The Centennials registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Ayr ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Philip Durnford was ejected from the game. Wellesley's Josh Heer stopped 23 shots out of the 28 that he faced. The Applejacks ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Wellesley, Mark Detzler was ejected from the game.
