Wellesley downs Ayr in overtime, 3-2 (OT)

The Wellesley Applejacks' Shawn Fitzpatrick scored 8:32 into overtime to beat the Ayr Centennials, 3-2 (OT).

With the win, Wellesley evened the series at 1-1 in the best of seven showdown.

The Applejacks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ayr to score on any of its four power plays. Wellesley forced the Centennials goalie Jordan Witt to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

The Applejacks stifled Ayr's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Wellesley was led by Connor McLeod, who grabbed two goals. McLeod scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:39 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. The Applejacks had gotten the advantage when the Centennials' Andrew Tapsell was sent off for slashing. Tyler Eckert picked up the assist. McLeod's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Wellesley with 1:29 left in the first period. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were Jake Steenson, who had one.

Josh Heer made 45 saves for the Applejacks on 47 shots. Wellesley totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Applejacks ran into disciplinary problems during the contest, and Brett Vickers was ejected from the game. Witt turned away 34 pucks between the pipes for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
