Larson nets hat trick, leads St. George to 5-2 win over Tavistock

The Tavistock Braves could not stop the St. George Dukes' Dennis Larson, who tallied a hat trick in a 5-2 win.

Larson's first goal came 3:33 into the first period. He then added goals at 4:44 into the third and at 5:06 into the third.

The win gave St. George a 1-0 lead in the best of seven series.

The Dukes pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 23 penalty minutes.

The referees were busy during the game, as 17 penalties were assessed during the course of the contest.

St. George's offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 38 shots put on Tavistock's net.

The Braves kept the Dukes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brandon Phillips made 41 saves on 43 shots. Tavistock could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 17 minutes in penalties during the game. The leading offender was Andrew Schacht, who totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major. The Braves were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on 10 chances.

St. George additionally got points from Josh Wrobel, who also finished with one goal and one assist. St. George got a goal from Nick Cole as well. Other players who recorded assists for St. George were Chris Vasile, Josh Mitton, Caleb Telfer, Jamie Snow, Kurtis Hulshof, and Grant Galloway, who contributed one each.

Tavistock was helped by Josh Wagler, who grabbed one goal. Wagler scored 10:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ryan Kuepher provided the assist. Josh Bobyk also scored for Tavistock. In addition, Tavistock received assists from Matthew Lupton, Nick Quehl, and Josh Zehr, who each chipped in one.
