Hagersville rolls over Burford, 8-1

The Burford Bulldogs had trouble finding ways to stop the Hagersville Hawks, which beat Bulldogs, 8-1.

The win moved Hagersville to down 2-0 in the best of seven series.

Jesse Ross was all over the ice for the Hawks, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Ross scored the first of his two goals at 4:27 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Hagersville. Derek Medeiros picked up the assist. Ross' next tally made the score 5-1 Hagersville with 10:56 left in the second period. Hagersville was on a disadvantage when Evan Saunders went off the ice for tripping.

The Hawks forced Burford's goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 46 shots and forcing 38 saves. Riley Carr made three stops and Justin Garner made 35.

Hagersville also got points from Nick Halliday, who also had one goal and two assists and Medeiros, who also registered one goal and two assists. Hagersville got a goal from Deacan Krause as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Brock McEachern, Kyle Parsons, Cole Martin, and Rob Clause, who each chipped in one and Greg Longboat and Aleck Boyd, who contributed two each.

The Bulldogs' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Burford finished with 22 penalty minutes. The leading offender was Jim Salatas, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

The Bulldogs were led by Kyle Chaney, who scored the team's only goal. Chaney scored on the power play 7:39 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Hagersville. A roughing penalty on Krause had put Burford on the power play. Tyler MacLaughlin provided the assist.

Hagersville's Jordan Ironside stopped 23 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Bulldogs registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
