Delhi uses big second period to beat Norfolk, 7-1

The Norfolk Rebels was within striking distance after one period, but the Delhi Travellers put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-1 victory.

The win by Delhi clinched the best of seven series at 0-4.

Nathan Moyaert had a great game for the Travellers, netting two goals. Moyaert scored at 17:49 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Delhi and again while on the power play 7:43 into the third to make the score 6-1 Delhi.

Delhi was led by goalie Chris Polgar, who finished with 31 saves while allowing one goal. The solid play of Polgar will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 1.5.

The Travellers' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 51 shots put on Norfolk's net. Delhi's defensemen played an important role in the offense, as they chipped in three goals. The Travellers had trouble staying out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 18 penalty minutes for two opposing power plays. The leading offender was Mac Scott, who totaled four minutes in penalty time with two minors.

Delhi additionally got points from Jake Durrant, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Delhi included Josh Bradshaw, who had two and Brad Ward and Derek Friesen, who each put in one. More assists for Delhi came via Taylor Hockley, who had one, Corbit Morrison and Jake Legein, who contributed two each, and Cody Stout and Reid Morrison, who each chipped in three.

The Rebels forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 13 minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. Norfolk surpassed its season average of 39 penalty minutes per game. The Rebels' offense efficiently hummed along to the tune of 32 shots put on Delhi's net.

Norfolk was led by Allan Lishman, who scored the team's only goal. Lishman scored on the power play 14:09 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Rebels had gained a power play chance when Friesen was whistled for unsportsmanlike conduct. Brad Hornby provided the assist.

The Travellers registered three goals on 17 power play opportunities. Jason Miller recorded 44 saves for Norfolk.
